I asked Rick if I could tell yall some of the details on how this whole wedding planning thing came to be. He said he was fine with it. There are some very funny things to share....at least I think theyre humorous. First though, I want to tell about an incident that I only recently shared with him. In 1992, I was going with a friend to a seminar. On the way, she asked if I ever thought about getting married again. I told her in no uncertain terms that no, I never thought about it and honestly didnt see me ever getting to the point Id ever even consider it. I mentioned that I LIKED being single and had gotten quite good at it. (I had become very independent by then and really, really liked it that way!) She said, Dont limit God. I answered with, Well if God has someone lined up for me that poor slob is on his knees, even as we speak, praying for patience. And I am going to be the tribulation that tries that patience. She mentioned that God was quite capable of changing my heart, so I needed to at least be open to it. I didnt say it but was sure thinking, Nope, Alice, I dont think so. No way, no how! Now I dont know if Rick has ever prayed for patience or not, but I do know he is the most patient human being I have ever met. I think hell be up to the challenge. I just wanted to share this in addition to yesterdays post so everyone will know how very unlikely our upcoming wedding has always been in my mind before telling yall the rest of it. But in all these single years (36 to be exact) Ive never been more sure about a decision being the right one. Stay tuned...more of our story in the next episode.
