I asked a customer to pick out the best film we had in our collection. Ida (currently on the New shelf) is the one he picked. Shot in black and white, Polish with English subtitles, Ida is one of the most powerful films I have seen in the last decade. It takes place in Poland in the 1960s. The plot is driven by the aftershocks of the Nazi occupation. The main character is Ida, a novitiate raised in a convent. Before Ida takes her vows, her Mother Superior sends her off to meet her only surviving relative and learn about her parents. Turns out, theres a lot for Ida to learn. -Preston
