I began writing this song in the fall of 2013, after witnessing firsthand the life of shelter animals. I went into the studio with Andy Patalan (Sponge) and we started recording. It began without a mission, only my sorrow at what I had seen, based on my personal experiences as a volunteer. Andy really pulled me through it and brought out exactly what needed to be brought out. He is an amazing musician and producer and I am so grateful and honored to have worked with him. After attending the No-Kill Conference in Sept. Of this year, the song evolved into a greater cause. I was introduced to the no-kill movement, which calls for shelter reform and benefits shelter animals everywhere. The no-kill movement promotes legislation called the CAPA law (Companion Animal Protection Act) that would help protect the animals.
