I believe Rewards are powerful. Focusing on the prize made this guy forget the pain. When God promises a reward, no doubt about it, you’ll receive it. Are you in pain? Are you struggling now? “DON’T EVER GIVE UP” MAY I SHARE HIS TRUE TO LIFE STORY? Dear WORK AND TRAVEL applicants, parents and schools, Greetings! My name is Jay An, the Vice President of Dream Search International Inc., who incidentally, was also a member of the very first batch of student participants of the WORK AND TRAVEL program way back in 2003. In advance of the employer’s interview which will be held from October 24 in Cebu to October 25, 26 in Manila, I would like to tell you my story and request from you a few things. In 2002, I was a self-supporting MBA student at UST. Away from my family and friends in Korea, everything in the Philippines was new to me. My life here had not been easy due to insufficient English skill and cultural differences that shocked me every day. Moreover, unknown barriers to my dream consistently put me disoriented and I was barely able to hold myself in that obscure situation. While I was wandering in search of my path, the advertisement of WORK AND TRAVEL USA by Dream Search International, Inc. caught my attention. As soon as I saw it, it got me so excited and overjoyed that I applied immediately. I felt at that time that this opportunity could open a path to my dreams and lead to new possibilities. As the interview date drew near, however, two concerns bothered me. Could I pass the interview? How can I prepare the program fees? As a self-supporting student, the program fee was a great burden and I had no one around to ask for support. Nevertheless, I was sure of one thing… I really wanted to participate in the program! Despite all the potential barriers, I decided to go ahead and apply whatever it takes and so I started by studying and enhancing my English skill day and night. In the meantime, I got a part-time job at a Korean company. A quick decision had to be made as there was not enough time till the interview. For the next five months, I did all sorts of jobs to be able to raise the program fee. However, despite all my efforts and sacrifices, in the end, it wasnt enough so I persuaded my parents and told them how much I wanted to join the program and asked for a little help from them and from my other relatives. So, on the day of the interview, the American employer asked me a question. “Why do you want to participate in this program? I answered, “I really want to go to the USA because I believe that without experiencing the world’s strongest, most advanced and the most democratic country in the world, then I don’t know the world. The USA exists in the world map but it has not been added into my map of life yet. There, I would like to find my dream, make new friends and find a turning point in my life. After replying to his question, all of sudden, I got chocked up and tears welled up in my eyes. To make a long story short, in March 15, 2003, the USA finally became a country where I left my footprints. In the USA, I felt my eyes, ears and heart were all open to new and exciting possibilities. It gave me a lot of confidence and made me feel like I can do anything. As I got ready to face challenges, I could picture in my head more details about my life. I thought to myself. “If I hadnt joined this program, how regretful my life would have been. Professional corporate management, highly democratic society, beautiful nature and lots of friends all combined together to give me unforgettable lifetime memories… I was definitely a lucky guy who gained all of these through the WORK AND TRAVEL program. My dearest applicants, I am now telling you as the Vice President of Dream Search, we will do our best to help you achieve your dream. We have been in the business for so long and we know what’s good for the students, parents and schools when it comes to this US Exchange Visitor Program. Remember that you are the luckiest person who seized the opportunity to join this program. It is a lifetime chance that may come to you only once. You may able to go to the USA in the future under different circumstances but the privileges, time and experiences that you will get as a student will never be the same. Lastly, I’d like to conclude with a very important advice; please, do not attempt to remain in the USA illegally after the program. Overstaying is unlawful and may seriously affect not only you, but also your parents, younger siblings, other students and, to a certain extent, your school and Dream Search. Most of all, you could be the biggest looser and this indiscretion could ruin your life. You could become a successful entrepreneur, politician or celebrity in the future so, why would you let a small mistake mess up your entire life? Remember that more openings and future opportunities are waiting ahead of you if you play it right. Do follow the contracted period, obey the rules and keep the commitment you made with others and yourself. My wish is that you would prepare for the interview with all your heart and soul and pass it with a great smile. May God bless you with a bright future! Thank you. Jay An Vice President Dream Search International, Inc. In his life, God has done MORE through his struggles than through his successes. If you study his successes, you’ll see that it’s made up of raw ingredients coming from his struggles. His struggles became the pathway to his successes.
