I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and who have lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally. President Ronald Reagan I am a huge supporter of immigration reform, based on my reading of the Bible (Mandates to love/treat well the alien among you are recurring themes) and because I have friends who are undocumented based on no fault of their own. The reason I posted this clip is because I know many of my friends lean more towards the conservative side of the political spectrum than I do, and most of those friends have a great respect for President Reagan. I do not expect a short clip from a debate held thirty years ago to change anyones mind. I simply hope to remind folks that finding a positive solution to the challenge of millions of undocumented folks living in the United States is not and never was an issue that only Democrats cared about. I agree with both President Reagan and President Obama that our nation needs to address undocumented immigrants in ways that are respectful of their personhood. Last nights announcement from our current President and this old clip of a former President have made me respect both men even more than I had.
