I believe most ppl know what is a small living quarter like ( a two room or one room flat). In early days, due to economic constraints, the government had to build that kind of flats to house ppl. But now I dont see why government should continue to build this kind of small flats. I had visited my friends two room flat before , and I think it is not a home which will make ppl feel like staying for it is like having walls closing in on u, and the air is still. On one visit, I even saw one old man sitting outside his flat, I think he prefers the space outside his narrow flat. Ppl are encouraged to go out of their homes to do something, but sometimes they also need a comfortable, airy home in which they can enjoy doing things they like. This is the purpose of having a home. There is the trend in Singapore to build flats which are smaller but at a higher price. I would like to say this is some kind of exploitation. When I saw the scene of foreign construction workers being squeezed into such narrow living quarter (just a bed and a narrow passage way) , Im not surprised if they should exploit anyone else. And most ppl know exploitation usually will go hand in hand with corruption, I hope this is not the case in Singapore , for we are somehow different from some other countries.
