I bought a 600 pound ice machine on Craigslist about a month ago and the guy installed it for me. It is 240v so he needed to run a wire from the circuit box, and he somehow decided on his own that there wasnt anything else running off the 240v circuit that was already hooked up in the breaker box. I guess he didnt realize that I needed my water heater. The hot water stopped working soon after he left and we didnt notice it for about a day because we dont really use much hot water at the nutrition club. Well the health inspector came by on friday and made me close till I got it fixed. Im no electrician so I first replaced the heating elements, that didnt work. Then I replaced the thermostats, that didnt work. Then I bought a multimeter to test the wire coming into the water heater, no electricity. Then I proceed to follow the wiring back to the junction box and the circuit panel and found no electricity flowing through the wires. Then I finally found the 2 wires he removed and taped up that feed the water heater. Thanks guy, you just cost me $75 for re-inspection, and 4 days of business because you are ignorant. The plus side in this learning experience is that you can learn anything at all from YouTube. Now Im installing a new 240v breaker for the water heater because I just watched how to do it on YouTube. Cross your fingers that I dont electrocute myself :)
