I bought a wooden top the other day, the kind you wind up with a string, toss and spin. I dont think they make them anymore, but in the early 1950s they were hi-tech toys for kids. That little top is a meditation in itself. It reminds me to go outside to play. It tells me that simple can be fun. It helps me to bring my values of the past with me into my future. It shows me that being by myself can be a good thing. It keeps my memory alive. It demonstrates that the kid in me is still there. It provides an exercise in either patience or pride depending on if I can get it to work. That top whispers truth as it spins my spirit on the balance of life.
