I bought my first modem in 1992 for $129.00 It was a 1200 Baud Modem. When I upgraded to a 4800 baud, the handshake (the noise) was a little longer. By the time I got my 28.8k Modem.. thats right kids.. a screaming 28.8k!!! You got to the point you knew if you had a good or bad connection by the sound of the handshake. I ran a bulletin board, which was something before the Internet of today. I installed an extra phone line, so two people could call my Bulletin Board and all three of us could chat at once. My FB friends from the Undernet and #41plus know exactly what Im talking about. We are the old timers, we were the rebels, we were the nerds before being a nerd was cool.
