I called my Momma yesterday to let her know we were home safe (we were only gone 36 hours), and she asks, How was your vacation? An innocent question, really. Well, our truck began to have problems by Ocotillo Wells, and started over-heating. This would have been okay, if it wasnt 121 degrees outside and we were now forced to drive with the heater on. In our haste, we have a run-in with the AZ highway patrol, who let us go, but keep us for 45 minutes with a million questions. Its only 116 now, so things are looking up. Back on the road, we can see the glorious Colorado River, when either a rare gray hawk or giant owl flies directly into our windshield. Eric wants to stop and bury him, but I convince him the bird is fine and were more shook up than the bird. We get to our spot, and a private owner has bought our dock. So we have nowhere to put the Jet Ski...the nice people at Fishers let me pay extra to borrow someones dock. We take out the Jet Ski in the morning and it is wonderful, until its 121 again and the river water is as hot as a jacuzzi. We meet a nice family from Campo, and the first thing the guy says is, Man, did you see that big dead bird on the way out here? Our vacation was fun otherwise. Cant wait to work today!
