“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) In the 1936 Summer Olympic games held in Nazi Germany, Jesse Owens, an African American track and field athlete took home four gold medals. He shocked the world and proved himself to be great right in the midst of Adolf Hitler’s master “Aryan” race. Many years later, President Carter said about him, “A young man who possibly didn’t even realize the superb nature of his own capabilities went to the Olympics and performed in a way that I don’t believe has ever been equaled since…and since this superb achievement, he has continued in his own dedicated but modest way to inspire others to reach for greatness.” So often, people see greatness in us more than we can see in ourselves, and until they validate us, we wouldn’t dare make such a bold declaration. What if Jesse Owens had this mindset? He wouldn’t have accomplished much at all. It is no longer a compliment for others to see more in you than you see in yourself. You must see it. Be as aware of it as those standing around you are. So aware that nothing can discourage you or cause you to lose your focus. What is stopping you from achieving greatness and making your mark in the world? God places no limitations on what you are capable of achieving in your life. Don’t limit yourself! Beat the odds! Change your community! Impact this world for the glory of God! You can do all things through Christ which strengthens you!
