I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) Holy Lord God, I confess that I have tried to live my life within the narrow, limited dimensions of my own wisdom and strength. I am painfully aware of my inadequacies: My love is shallow and sometimes selfish; my feelings are often distorted and easily hurt; my patience has a short fuse and my disposition often reflects my inner tensions; my disappointment with life and people is reflected in my attitudes; my anxiety over social and world conditions reveals how little I trust You. As a result, I often order my life around my own abilities and skills and miss the adventure of life that You have prepared for me. I confess to You all the things I dared not attempt, the courageous deeds I contemplated but was afraid I could not do, the gracious thoughts I had but never communicated. Forgive me Lord, for forgetting that You are able to do in and through me what I could never do myself, and for settling for a life which is a mere shadow of what You had prepared for me. Now in the quiet of this time of honest confession, plant in me the vivid picture of what you are able to do with a life like mine, and give me the gift of new excitement about living life by Your triumphant adequacy! Amen!
