I can hear the humba and baaa baaa of the animals around me. It is a beautiful environment of happiness. People have bought animals to sacrifice for the sake of Allah commemorating the event that took place thousands of years ago. The test on Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him). The test that he passed, the ultimate test where he was asked by Allah to sacrifice his dear beloved son Ishmael (peace be upon him). The test in which Prophet Abraham proved that his love and devotion towards Allah was way greater than that which Allah gave him and that which became close to his heart. Prophet Abraham told his son: ‘O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offering you in sacrifice to Allah). So look what you think!’ His forbearing son replied: ‘O my father! Do that which you are commanded, In shaa’ Allah (if Allah wills), you shall find me of As-Saabiroon (the patient).’ Then when they both submitted to the Will of Allah, Prophet Abraham passed the knife over his sons throat but it did not cut him at all by the Mercy of Allah. Then it was called out from Allah. O Abraham, You have fulfilled the vision. Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, this was the clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. a ram) And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations: Peace upon Abraham. Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, he was of Our believing servants. Allah paid Prophet Abrahams submission by replacing the matter of sacrifice from his son to an animal. Glory be to Allah. So let us take a moral from this beautiful story. Our lives, our possessions, our families, our wealth and everything in this dunya that belong to us cannot and should not hold a higher place in our hearts than Allah. A reminder that should echo in every aspect of our lives. Busy doing work and dont have time for salah? Busy shopping and willing to miss your asr and maghrib salah? Taking off the hijaab and shaving the beard for the sake of employment? Is it worth it? Is anything worth disobeying Allah and is anything or anybody more worthy than Allah?
