(I cannot see what Brendans problem with Borini is. He works hard, gets his head down and wants to play for the team. He didnt want to leave Liverpool, nothing to do with the money, he just wanted to be given a fair chance to prove himself at Liverpool. He was Sunderlands player of the year, so I havent a clue what Brendans thinking on this is issue is. SRC.) Mario Balotelli set to return for Liverpool FC but Fabio Borini edging closer to Anfield exit door One Italian striker eyes comeback but his fellow countryman is out of favour Mario Balotelli is set to return to the Liverpool FC squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United but fellow striker Fabio Borini is edging closer to the Anfield exit door. Balotelli has resumed full training at Melwood after missing the past six matches with a groin injury and could be named on the bench at Old Trafford. However, there is unlikely to be a recall for Borini, who hasn’t even made Liverpool’s matchday 18-man squad for the past four games. Borini has failed to force his way back into Brendan Rodgers’ plans and looks increasingly likely to be sold in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old has only made three starts since he ignored the manager’s advice to move on back in the summer. Liverpool accepted a £14million offer from Sunderland and then agreed a £13million deal with Queens Park Rangers on deadline day. However, on both occasions Borini was unable to agree personal terms and opted to stay put. The Italian set his sights on fighting his way back into the team but those hopes now lie in tatters and he will need to leave Anfield in search of playing time. Kolo Toure could feature against United after overcoming the groin problem which forced him to sit out the Champions League clash with Basel. Adam Lallana is also available for selection – despite suffering two cracked ribs in last week’s league win at Leicester City. Meanwhile, Rodgers has shrugged off speculation that contract talks with Raheem Sterling have run into trouble. The 20-year-old winger will make his 100th appearance for the Reds against United. “If you look at Raheem’s performances, they do the talking,” Rodgers said. “I know Raheem very well and can see he’s happy. He’s at a club he loves being at and enjoys playing here. I’m sure that deal will get sorted out in time.” echo/pearce
