I cant begin to articulate how proud I am to count myself among the few who have worn the uniform of our nations most enduring and revered institutions. Equally proud am I to say that I served with some of the finest, most dedicated and honorable people this country has to offer. The eight years I spent in the Corps were the best of my life. I thank God for every breath he privileged me while wearing that uniform. Every time I meet a Marine, young or old, it doesnt matter. Though we may be strangers, we treat each other like old friends and embrace one another like brothers. Ive lived around the country since Ive been out and sure, Ive made some friends. But none so enduring and lasting like the ones I count among my comrades. Though life may make it hard for us to keep in touch as much as we would like, it really doesnt matter. Every time we talk we pick up right where we left off, no matter how much time has transpired. I am eternally grateful for this and for all my friends. Let us give thanks and remember. Remember that our single greatest source of strength is and always will be each other. Let us be thankful for those who came before us, who laid the path at our feet and passed to us this grand tradition. For in honoring them we honor ourselves, and in that tradition we come to realize that who we are is who we were. And may we never forget our friend and mentor Staff Sergeant Gene Ramirez. Who on this day ten years ago passed to glory in defense of his friends, family and nation. Let us not mourn that he has gone before us, rather we should give thanks that he ever lived. May his memory forever live in our hearts and our minds. For so long as we remember him and the many others whose sacrifices are not mentioned here, they will live on always. Happy Birthday Marines!!! Semper Fi
