I’m a leftist. I desperately and passionately want there to be - TopicsExpress

I’m a leftist. I desperately and passionately want there to be peace here and for us to stop occupying another people. I’m ready and willing to give up territories and control. I almost always go to peace rallies, and I believe that the only solution is a diplomatic solution. But, I refused to go to Saturday’s ‘anti-war’ rally in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square. No, I haven’t suddenly become a right winger; nor have I become numb to the pictures of destruction and death coming out of Gaza or to the heart-wrenching funerals of our soldiers; and not because it’s nice for a change to be in the warm embrace of the Israeli mainstream (even though the truth is it’s really nice to feel the embrace of the people of Israel in these difficult days). I didn’t go because, while I believe in making huge compromises for the sake of peace, I’m not prepared to make compromises for the sake of terror. I’m not prepared to have my family live for another 14 years with the sound of Qassam rockets and red alerts. I won’t put up with Hamas soldiers coming out of terror tunnels just meters from my sister’s house, as happened last week. Land for Peace? Absolutely, yes. My family for terrorism? No. N-O. No.
