Who are the Kurds and why are they different than Arabs, Turks and - TopicsExpress

Who are the Kurds and why are they different than Arabs, Turks and other muslim nations? Why are they anti Islamism? Isnt everyone in Middle east muslim fanatics? I will try to answer these questions for those of you interested. Kurds live in an area we ourselves call Kurdistan, an area divided between Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria. People sometimes think that Kurdistan is an area full of desert and no man land. But its the opposite, we live on mountains and around mountains. We have very few spots that are desert like nature. Because of our wars with our occupiers we have a saying that goes like this No friends but the mountains. Being the native inhabitants of their land. there are no beginnings for Kurdish history and people. Kurds and their history are the end products of thousands of years of continuous internal evolution and assimilation of new peoples and ideas introduced sporadically into their land. Genetically, Kurds are the descendants of all those who ever came to settle in Kurdistan, and not any one of them. A people such as the Guti, Kurti. Mede, Mard, Carduchi, Gordyene, Adianbene, Zila and Khaldi signify not the ancestor of the Kurds but only an ancestor. Kurds were fire worshipers before Islam. Yes you read it correctly, fire worshipers. We had fire temples and we were called the children of the fire, the children of the sun. We created the first aryan empire called the Median empire 600bc This religion was called Zoroastrism. It was a religion of tolerance and respect. But then came Islam and arab hordes. And they gave us three options. 1: Convert to Islam 2: Pay taxes in gold 3: Death They hated the kurds and persians specially because of our advanced society compared to theirs and that we had women as generals while their women were locked inside at home. It was a clash of identities. We didnt accept their terms so we went to war against the muslims for 300 years. Fighting for our identity. But sadly we lost because of lack of leadership and previous wars with the Byzantian empire. Back then there was a lot of skirmishes between the Byzantian empire and Sassanid empire. They destroyed most of our fire temples and our historical cities. But Kurdistan never became like any other Islamic countries, we lived side by side with those that could pay taxes, the christians, jews, zoroastrians, ezidis and more. And we still do it. Only in Kurdistan can you find Christians, Muslims and Jews pray next to each other. To travel through Kurdistan is to travel through biblical history. It was here that three Kurdish zoroastrian priest also called Magis left their homes to follow a star that would take them to Betlehem, the three wise men as you know them. Why are kurds different than other muslims? Kurds were forced into Islam and our culture does not fit with their way of thinking. That is why we have been laidback muslims. That is why our women are fighting in the fronts and dont necessary wear hijab. Another famous kurd that you all know by his name was Saladin. Yes he was an Islamic leader but he was respected by his enemies and even became friends with Richard the Lionheart, king of England. He took back Jerusalem from the crusaders, but he did not forbid Jews or Christians to come as pilgrimes to Jerusalem, why? He was a kurd. Like I told you before, Kurds have always been tolerant towards other religious groups and identify themselves as Kurds before anything else. While its opposite for others in Middle East that identify themselves as Muslims first. Here is a video I made, its only pictures and not much words. But as they say, pictures says more than a thousand words. https://youtube/watch?v=8ywGcX85O_Q&list=UUx5HYucksXnq3Ivg0O2_ZsQ For more information: kurdistanica/?q=node/2
