I cant begin to describe my disappointment. I was in Tacloban for - TopicsExpress

I cant begin to describe my disappointment. I was in Tacloban for three whole weeks immediately after the typhoon hit the region. On the second day, we received news that the national government had arrived, whats more is that they brought relief goods for the people who were affected. But we waited, seven straight days for the first wave of relief to reach Marasbaras and Villa Dolina, relatives and friends from V and G said they didnt receive anything at all and people from Abucay had barely heard anything about these reliefs. After the first week, we were informed that the United Nations was spearheading an international effort to help the victims of the calamity, but it took another whole week for those huge boxes of noodles and canned food to reach the different communities in Tacloban. Later on we found out that the Bureau of Customs wouldnt let them through because they were being made to pay taxes. When I heard about how the President came along with the DILG secretary to the city, I was impressed. Being in the front lines of a National Calamity was a good move for PNoy, but after I realized that meetings with local authorities were done only with his allies in the city council and not with the Mayor himself (Who by the way is against the administration), I couldnt describe what I was feeling inside. I was infuriated, I was insulted. You may tell me Im being ungrateful, well guess what. I am. I am not grateful for the kind of help the government has given us, you know why? Because we werent given what we deserved, and what we deserved was exactly what we needed. We needed a speedy response from the administration, we needed unity in times of grief. But with evident partisan politics going on, and the crappy corruption that hinders relief from being distributed I cant help but feel ashamed of our government. Yes, we have all the right to expect if not a perfect, then a nearly perfect government primarily because they promised us of such perfection. They gave us the hope that they would help us, that they were for us, that we, the Filipino people, were their boss. But our votes, our confidence and our taxes were in vain. I have had enough. Our democracy has failed us, our government is dead and the bureaucracy that guides it is rotting. Down with the administration, Tindog Tacloban, tumayo ka na Pilipinas.
