I cant believe its been ten days already. I wanted to share Millies story. This is my farewell to her. Ive included a short video at the bottom which shows Millie at her best, playing ball with Busby and Mollie. It took a lot of cajoling to get Dave to agree that we needed a second dog. I somehow convinced him that its easier to have two than one. We first saw you on the Battersea website, and there was something in those sad eyes that made us want to see more. So off we went to Brands Hatch, with Bruno, to meet you. We were told you were classed as special needs, as you weighed 39 kilos. You were certainly a big girl. There was a waiting list of people wanting to adopt you, but once the staff had met Bruno and seen you on a walk together, they agreed we should take you home there and then. We felt incredibly lucky. You had a lust for life then, but not the stamina! Short runs followed by a lie down and some panting were the norm. As for Bruno, he would snarl when you heaved yourself up on the sofa and lay down next to him. It took two months of sensible feeding and twice daily walks to get you to your target weight. You lost the equivalent of one of those big sacks of dog food. You quickly settled in, and became the most affectionate dog we could have wished for. You loved meeting new dogs and people, and friends would compete to be the one who got you to lie on the sofa with them. You became my little cuddle blanket in the evenings. Not that you were perfect, of course. Many of your nicknames referred to smells, whether you had rolled in muck or just done one of your killer farts. You were a proper scavenger, and I wont itemise the things I had to remove from your mouth, or worse, pick up after youd regurgitated them. Sadly, it was your scavenging that took you from us. One bout of gastroenteritis, and you were recovering well. Sadly, you did it again and were too weak from the first time to pull through. We miss you every day. The house is too quiet without you, but we remember the four years we had together with love and affection. So, farewell, beautiful girl, and thanks for all the love.
