I cant count all of the times Ive heard people skipping meals to try to lose weight. If you think of your body as a vehicle, then food and hydration are your fuel. If you let your body run on empty, it will negatively effect your metabolism and greatly hinder your ability to lose any weight or gain any strength!! Not to mention messing with your mood and irritability due to crashing blood sugar!! Eating right and eating often is a key to stoking that metabolism and fueling that engine!! :-)
