I cant even begin to count the number of times I see riders riding - TopicsExpress

I cant even begin to count the number of times I see riders riding only the horses face. We were all guilty of it at one time. Working the neck down and head towards vertical while throwing away whats going on in the rest of the body. This is a great illustration of what the neck should be doing. I would rather see a horse with their neck up and ahead of vertical and working on hindend/back/shoulders, than a horse that has only had their head ridden... (ie: broken in the face, behind vertical and evading the bit, heavy on the front, lacking correct use in the rest of their body.) The latter is a real hard thing to UN-teach after that damage has been done. Ride the hind end first, gaining use of the topline and shoulders and the neck and head will take care of itself... but riding the front end first, it wont work to gain the shoulders, back and hind end. It takes less time and energy to go about it right the first time around. Stop and think about what your reactions in the horses body are being caused by your own actions.
