I cant look away from triplejfeed - not because of the content, but because of the cataclysmic series of (avoidable) events that surround a site providing an official statement in response to what has to be triple js largest media story in years. So far Ive seen: - Error establishing a database connection - Replacing the site with a page embedding all of the site content in an image called front.jpg - Index of / - a zip file (205MB) found in the filesystem. I notified JJJ, but got it down - its still there. Yes, it contains passwords and source code. - A Wordpress plugin complaining that its not activated - Numerous Error displaying this message messages Im so confused. The sites static, and exists for one function that is unlikely to see even content changes in its lifetime. How was this entire thing not a bunch of static files, fronted by a CDN to the nines? Or, if they required a database, how was every request not cached liberally with a scaling strategy underneath? Varnish? This site was always going to be massive in terms of attention. Not having got the site online in the five and a half hours since it was announced has me speechless. No pleasure in watching this unfold - Im sure whoever has been tasked with the site has had a shocker of an afternoon and no one wants to be in this position. More than a cautionary tale of planning load contingencies in advance.
