I cant think of a better way to share an announcement that Ive been sitting on for a couple of months now. During the tragedy that was Ferguson, I didnt deem it appropriate. But today, TODAY? I ABSOLUTELY think its appropriate to share my SUPER awesome news....thanks to this email I just received!! Im sooooooooooooooo pleased to share that my darling, The Dandy Lion Project will be traveling to the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, Illinois, where it will be on view from April 2 - July 12, 2015. From its origins at Societys HAEs Pop Up Gallery in Harlem to the several institutions that have hosted it over the past four years, the babys officially all grown up. The Executive Director of MoCP, Natasha Logan, is an incredible visionary and Im so excited to work with her and her phenomenal team. Im even more thrilled that that the 5 year-old, who lives in Chicago, will be able to see her aunt do her thing as I introduce her to my world of curating, Black aesthetics and scholarship. But the bit of news that just took me over the Fall Equinox moon and sun this morning was an email that I received from award-winning Congolese photographer Baudouin Mouanda who has officially confirmed his participation in the project. Ive been a HUGE fan of his work since I first learned about the phenomenon that is the Sapeurs of Brazzaville. (Well apparently he confirmed a minute ago but his message was lost in the sauce). A bientôt, Baudouin Mouanda Photographe République du CONGO Not to mention, the show will also include work from several other international and national heavy hitters including Rose Callahan Daniele Tamagni Numa Perrier Sara Shamsavari Arteh Odjidja Richard Terborg, Rog Walker, Allison Janae Hamilton and Jody Ake. **Thanks Daphne and Alexis for all of your assistance bka translation services.
