I can’t is not in our dictionary… Whenever I hear the sad words, I am reminded what the great industrialist, Henry Ford, used to say, “Whether you can or can’t you are right!” This pretty much sums up people. It’s probably not politically correct to put people in three categories, but that is exactly what I do. There are the people that can’t, because it’s the economy, it’s my in-laws, it’s my spouse, as soon as the kids get out of school, as soon as summers over and the kids get back in school, it’s cold out, or it’s too hot, and my favorite is as soon as I lose 20 pounds I will. Whatever your dream or goal, is to not fall into the category of I can’t. Then the middle-of-the-road crew, are the coasters. Let other people control their lives and just kind of ride the wave of indecision, not quite as bad as the can’t people, they just don’t know where they are going or what they’re doing. You could make the analogy of the can’t people, are in a sinking ship and complain that it’s sinking, but don’t do anything, so they will drown. If the middle-of-the-road coasters actually got in a lifeboat, and they could see the shore, they would hope the current will take them to land. The next group is the cans. You want to be in this group because they are in the lifeboat catching fish, improvising their clothes to catch the rainwater and if things get too tough, they will be the coasters! The you can group will scratch, claw, bite, shove, and do anything to accomplish their goal, hopefully not hurting people. Process that some do and if you are in this group, try to scratch and claw your way to your goal, without hurting other people, trying to cannibalize the coasters, unless necessary. The two extreme categories of cans, would be Rockefeller and on the other side of the coin Gandhi. I would like to fall somewhere in between the two. Rockefeller was a criminal that killed Maimed and hurt anyone that got in his path. He used gangster tactics to destroy his competition; blowing up refineries, torture, or murder for hire, you name it, he did it. On the other side is Gandhi, leading a nonviolent revolution. It must of been hard having his followers and himself beat, Tortured, and killed, without fighting back, was an amazing feat. I want to fall somewhere in the middle, I don’t want to step on people’s toes, unethically clawing my way to the top to reach my dreams. On the other hand, I don’t want someone beating me with a stick, while I turn the other cheek. There has to be a happy medium. There are truly amazing people out there. One you should research is Wim Hoff, otherwise known as, the Iceman. This guy has conditioned his body, so that in the middle of winter, he runs up and down ski slopes with just shorts on. No shoes, socks, or shirt, running barefoot up and down the ski slopes. He ran a half marathon in 10° below zero weather barefoot! Truly an amazing individual that probably doesn’t say can’t. Start of eliminating the cant’s out of your life. Look for excuses to just do it! Put all that other crap on the back burner and improve yourself, one step at a time! If you train with us you should definitely come down Rodrigo Gracie seminar this weekend. Stop saying I can’t and just do. See you on the mats
