I celebrated my 7th birthday in Mexico as we had recently moved there. My gifts included a twinky, half a bubble gum, a card with the original recipients name scratched out, and a boxing ring. The boxing ring was made out of an old piece of wood with a nail on each corner and two rubber bands stretched around them. The kid who gave me the boxing ring also gave me his favorite wrestling figure with its head bitten off! My mom explained that its not about the gifts you receive, but rather the thought and love that people put into those gifts! I learned to become very appreciative, much more frugal, and very humble as the years went on! I hope to pass on those values to Noel!
