I chat with Mormon Missionaries so You Dont Have To™ -------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Mormon.org Chat Thank you for your interest in talking to missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The purpose of Mormon.org chat is to answer basic questions about the church and its beliefs and to provide opportunities to learn more. Missionaries will be with you shortly. NOW CHATTING WITH SISTER LILY L: Hi Q: Hi! Are you an official representative of the Mormon Church? L: Yes, we are the Sister Missionary of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Q: I have a question for you, and need a thoughtful answer. L: I will do my best to answer you because English is my second language. Q: Is the Book of Mormon considered an historical document? Is it fact? Is it actual history? Or is it belief. L: the Book of Mormon is a record from ancient America and its a true history and also its the word of God, because there have the teaching from God. Q: But this week in the UK fraud case where Thomas S. Monson was summoned, the LDS church legal team said These are not facts. These teachings are beliefs. In effect justifying fraud. So Im trying to understand if By my voice or the voice of my [lawyers] it is the same. See D&C 1. Can you explain? L: I can share to you how to know the Book of Mormon is true or not In the introduction of the Book f Mormon saiQ:We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by power of the Holy Ghost (See Moroni 10:3-5). Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the world that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last day, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is theLords kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah. Q: Ummm... this is logical fallacy. A tautology. Can you give me a method that isnt self-referential? In other words, its illogical to say You can ask my friend if he is telling the truth. Hell tell you its all true! Do you see the problem? L: I know the Book of Mormon is true not because I asked anyone. Its because I asked God and I belief the Book of Mormon is true from my heart. Do you want to know if the Book of Mormon is true? Q: But arent we commanded by God to first study it out in your own mind? And if we go straight to God without pre-thinking it through, arent we wicked and lazy servants? Q: Oh, no. I already know the Book of Mormon is not true. Because Ive not only studied it out in my mind, but Ive also Googled it. But that is not the question that I had for you. My question was: whether or not you, as a representative of the LDS Church teach the Book of Mormon as fact (historical) or as belief (magical). And you answered my question affirmatively that you teach it as fact. Which makes you (intentionally or not) guilty of frauQ: teaching as true something that is not reasonable. L: I tell you God wants you to read and pray about it and you will know the Book of Mormon is true and you will feel His love, will you open your heart and read it again humbly? Q: Ive been reading it all day. This is what Ive founQ: several instances where there are errors of the quotations from the particular 1762 KJV version of the Bible Joseph Smith had in his house which are in the Book of Mormon - which Joseph Smith claims he translated. Question: how did an error from a 1762 KJV bible get into the gold plates supposedly written in 600 bc and translated by Joseph Smith? So... Ive studied it out in my mind. Should I have prayed first? Or studied first? L: Sorry, I dont everything but I really believe the Book of Mormon is true because I read it, prayed about it and apply the teaching from the Book of Mormon and I truly see so much blessing from God so I cant deny it, I know because I do it. Q: Even the LDS apologetics site FARMS talks about these errors, although I find their explanation unconvincing: en.fairmormon.org/Book_of_Mormon/Anachronisms/Translation_Errors_from_the_KJV L: Have you pray about the Book of Mormon to God before? Q: Yes, Several times. Now I use this methoQ: Read, Study, Think, Google, Thing Some More, Pray. L: So do you believe in God or Man? Q: Using Google is how I knew to come to this site. I googled missionary + chat. Well... I believe that God is lacking a vowel. I believe in Good. Is the Book of Mormon Good even if it is not historical? In other words, if it is fiction, is it still Good? L: I invite you in real intent to watch the video and you will know what is the promise of reading the Book of Mormon: https://lds.org/pages/mormon-messages?lang=eng#a-book-with-a-promise Q: LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie - echoed later by Prophet Ezra T. Benson and current living Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland saiQ: Either the Book of Mormon is true, or it is false; either it came from God, or it was spawned in the infernal realms. https://lds.org/ensign/1983/11/what-think-ye-of-the-book-of-mormon?lang=eng But in court this week the LDS lawyers said it was not fact, it was belief. I find it strange that this chat interface does not allow copy and paste... nor clicking on links. Why do you think that is? L: Or you can go to lds.org and mormonchannel.org Q: Well, thankyou for confimring to me the LDS missionaries are still teaching it is true. Because thats not what the Church lawyers testified to in the UK court case this week. Thanks! L: I want to tell you and serve as a missionary because I love everyone include you and I really want to help people to know this wonderful massage and help them to have a better life. Q: If you do get a chance (I know thought-control is pretty tight) you may want to look up mormonthink/monson-summons.htm . I know, Lily. I was an LDS missionary 30 years ago. Probably the highest-baptising missionary in all of Europe. You are doing the best you can do. But unfortunately the Church itself is declaring to the world that it is not fact. Not history. Only belief. Only opinion. When they know very well there were not plates. That the Three Witnesses only testified of seeing them with their spiritual eyes not with real eyes. In other words, what theChurch is doing is a dodge. And the results are dodgy. But... it only costs 10% of your income, so its no biggy, right? L: Thank you for telling me about you, but I know I will do my best to endure to the end I know I will go back to Him again I know He loves me so much, and I know in my whole heart you also the son of Heavenly Father. Thats true, we want to help people to be baptized but I learned from my mission is LOVE is the most important thing, it doesnt matter they want to be baptized or not we still ove them and serve them. Q: Well thank you. This message has been recorded for quality control purposes, and to be used to determine if the Corporation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is still asserting the fraudulent claims of truth when they mean opinions of men. L: I just want you to know you still the precious son of Him. [Q sends thankyou emoticon] L: W love you Q and God loves you SO MUCH! Its not just imagination, its true! Q: Thanks for clarifying! But... I dont think you know what true means, versus belief, or feeling. Its not your fault. The church did it to you. L: What is your intent to come on chat? Q: To find out if the Church (via its representatives) still teach the Book of Mormon as historical truth (i.e. fact) or as belief. L: We believe in the BoM and Joseph Smith. Q: Yes, and then you qualified that it is historically true. L: We are here to help people come onto Christ, if you have this desire to come back, we would love to talk to you more later. But now we have another appointment to go... Q: In other words, that American Natives are called Lamanites and are descendants of the tribe of Israel. L: If you want you can give us your phone number, we would love to call you later... Otherwise, sorry. We have to leave. Q: I had the local Sister Missionaries over last week. 4 hour discussion. They were lovely. They learned things they never knew before. They are coming back soon to look at google together. L: Okay, good luck. Dave. Keep learning and asking questions. But the most iportant thing is to pray and ask God about these things and what he wants you to do . We wish you the best. Q: Before or after I Google it? L: You believe in Google... we believe in God and our prayers. Q: Because if I google first, it tends to ruin the magical effect. L: Good luck with google, then. Q: I believe the evidence of my eyes... But am willing to suspend my disbelief if nobody knows for sure. But people are pretty sure about the history of the BoM and I can see the original documents for myself. They broke the prayer effect. The problem is, most of this stuff is on Google. In my case, I just find it so wonderful and interesting that the LDS Church persists in teaching it as truth even though theyve just been called to account in court. L: Have a good day.
