I checked with SJCI about the donation and there are a few options/issues. They strongly recommend we centralize donations through them for acknowledgments and tax purposes. First question is what restrictions we place on the donation. I have some experience with this on the receiving end, and strongly recommend we place some/any language with the money. The best is probably to give the call to Jareds mom, who already has a long history of donations to SJCI. Second is whether we make a single donation in Jareds name, or whether we go for a full class endowment. This is more a question of scale. The endowment is held in an account until it reaches $25k, and then the interest is used for scholarships. This of course, will either be delayed, or require that we significantly boost our contributions. I expect to do the latter either way. I have some opinions about educational donations, but will hold them until we have a chance to discuss. Ill be at the wake briefly today if anyone would like to coordinate. Donny and I will likely head to lunch after the funeral with anyone interested as well.
