I co-garden with my neighbor from El Salvador, who is in her mid-70s, and another Chinese neighbor in her early 40s. It is such a joy to share the abundance and today Ge brought me Lotus Root soup, which is fabulous. I also cooked the chard she harvested. Ophelia makes the best green chili enchiladas. Both have been able to expand their gardens using clippings from mine. We adore the blooms and bounty and treat them ever so tenderly. This summer, I will make a five course dinner and have them at the table. I have some edible flowers in the garden that Im going to throw into the mix. I wish I could send the fragrance of the old roses across the internet. Its especially wonderful in the early morning, when the dew is still on the roses and at dusk, when the fog rolls in.
