I confess that I am often impatient with church worship music. I dont like being told to stand. Whaa... does God need my head two feet closer to heaven to hear me over these blasted speakers? I dont want to stand. And I dont mean because I am in my late 50s, ... I didnt want to stand when I was a kid. And then, we have to be forced to sing. Whaa... I have to sing about how God is big as the ocean tall as a mountain aGAIn?? Cant we do something intelligent with these lyrics? It doesnt help that many worship musicians dont like singer/songwriters. This is a disease.... I think it is a wannabe disease, but I am not sure. But yes, they will sabotage you cut you down look at you with red eyes and do anything to make you small, I am not kidding. And this is not reciprocated by singer/songwriters. Singer/songwriters do not want to be worship leaders. Leading worship is the booby prize. I have been in churches where we were setting up while the worship team looked on waiting to rehearse and I could tell which member stood where on the platform by who got mad as I walked back and forth. So.... this probably does not help. And maybe I am ADD I dont know, but I am always relieved when worship music is over.... I never feel like, oh....lets sing 5 more songs. I am always thinking as we sing....is it over yet...oh rats, another song....oh yay the last song, now I can sit down. Maybe that would not be true if I could hear myself sing. Oh well. This isnt to say I have never liked worship music ever...I occasionally do. But to me worship... and music... are two different things. Worship is unified with life. I tell God, as I shovel poop....thank you thank you, I am amazed I have a real barn with horse poop to shovel and by the way, what you did on the cross was amazing, and youre pure as a shaft of light, absolutely loving and faithful and how did you know I would love this smelly barn so much?? .... thats how I worship and it happens spontaneously and often. I am not meaning for anyone to take this personally....this is how I have always been. There. Ive said it.
