I consider myself a tolerant woman. Im not always patient but I do realize that sometimes shit happens and leniency of time must be given. With that said, 6 months of patience has led me to no repairs to my home although there have been numerous and kind reminders that the work has yet to be completed. As Ive been reporting regarding my landlords failure to maintain the building, I share this with you. Today, the City of Oak Ridges Codes Enforcement Officer came out to my home. I handed him a three page report with each violation neatly encoded with the statute that was not being met. I did get a pat on the head (figuratively) for that forethought. After I walked him around the property (in dos Vader boot), I brought him into my home to show him the rest of the list. He was snapping pictures so fast I thought it was a photo shoot for a celebrity. As I walked him through all of it, he asked questions and I answered truthfully to the best of my knowledge. Before he left, he told me that the things I have listed arent anything that I am doing to make these things happen, that these are all just poor building maintenance and I would get a copy of what is being cited as violations. Im polite. Ill allow leeway unless there is immediate danger to my family. When this began, there wasnt, but as time has progressed that danger increases and Im not okay with either myself or my husband being damaged because of negligence on their part. When I get told No, I will not do that, when Im requesting contact with the owner, I get angry, the gloves come off, and business at hand WILL comply with regulations. Im not afraid to step up again. After losing over $900 that was stolen by John Kirkland and never returned because his building was uninhabitable, I will not repeat that again. You do not have my permission to treat me as a second class citizen just because I dont have money. I assure you, its a battle of wits right now and Im far better armed with education than my contender at this point. Lets hope thats enough.
