I consider this practice rude and condescending because of its implication that the adherents beliefs are superior to those of other peoples and thus they need to be saved from the error of their ways. Before anyone comes back at me and says promotion of science is also proselytizing, no, it is not a belief unsupported by evidence. Knowledge of science and its benefits is part of education and has been shown to be the best way to understand reality. There is no equivalency there.
