I copied this from a very well spoken man: The pension system - TopicsExpress

I copied this from a very well spoken man: The pension system was set up years ago, not by rank and file City of Phoenix employees, but by City of Phoenix upper management, lawyers, the City Council and others that are educated professionals who didnt or failed to see what the shortcomings could be. They also most likely set it up to benefit themselves. Meanwhile, the typical rank and file City of Phoenix employee accepted their position and came to work, did their jobs, and contributed to a retirement system that would pay them a pension after they became eligible. They didnt make the rules, but are the ones being attacked for accepting a job that had good benefits and making the most of them. I retired from the City of Phoenix last July after 28 years of service. I am not a millionaire by any stretch, nor did I abuse the pension system. I came to work, did not call in sick when I wasnt, and worked overtime when it was scheduled or needed, in a very specialized job contained in a 24/7 operation. I took pay cuts and furlough days to help the City adjust for the financial mistakes made by management and the City Council. Unlike David Cavazos and other upper management, I did not get a car allowance or cell phone allowance, I drove my own car to work, fueled, insured, and maintained by me, not the City of Phoenix taxpayers. Same for my cell phone. The problems started at the top, not the bottom. Stop blaming the employees, and start cleaning up the problems with overspending and mismanagement that starts at the highest levels of City Hall. One final thought - If you do get your way, and Proposition 487 is passed, who or what will you place the blame upon the next time the City of Phoenix has financial difficulties ?
