I could never foster, I would get too attached! I cant foster because I love with all my heart and it would just be too painful to say goodbye. There was a time when I thought this way. But God destroyed that fear after Josue I decided to follow the call our pastors at City of Grace felt God placed on our church! After fostering and adopting and being a part of that community, when I hear these types of statements I now hear you saying, my need to avoid pain and loss is more important than a childs need for love. I WONT foster because I love with all my heart and so I assume you have a cold-emotionless heart if you are able to foster and say goodbye . In this blog post the foster mom quotes an important bit of information about attachment: It is crucial at each stage of development—infants, toddlers, and young children—to learn how to attach. Even if children do not get to stay with the person they are attaching to, it is better for them to go through the pain of loss than to never attach to anyone at all So all you excuses of why you cant foster are ironically all the reason why you SHOULD foster! These kids need to be loved and be able to attach regardless of what happens. So, the question is, will you allow fear to prevent you from loving a child who needs it and continue to make excuses that you love too much to give a home to a child!?
