I could not have imagined when I was snapping away at Flirt giving - TopicsExpress

I could not have imagined when I was snapping away at Flirt giving me Christmas kisses a little over a week ago that it would be her last Christmas with us. I could not have imagined on New Years Eve when I was reflecting on the passing of Max earlier this year that I would be saying goodbye to Flirt the very next night... I could not have imagined when I went to sleep last night that she would not be making her usual nightly patrols of the house and be there to greet me with a big smile and a wagging tail in the morning, running around in the backyard as I sipped my morning coffee just watching her prance. I could not have imagined.... but yet that is what happened..... It was with a excruciatingly heavy heart that we had to kiss our sweet, sweet fur baby goodbye in the wee hours of this morning. My heart is completely broken. I have no idea how I am going to break the news to Hailey when she returns from Ohio tomorrow. She absolutely adored Flirt and has not known life without her. I know that she will be devastated. For the first time since 1995 my home is without a four-legged family member and I cant stop the tears from falling. I would like to that Dr. Maria Rivera from the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Clinic in Harper Woods for her compassion and kindess in helping Flirt cross over to the other side. She truly did her best not to only try to help Flirt but to help us also in making a horrifically painful decision. After Flirt had passed and as we were leaving I looked over my shoulder into the room where she lay and I saw Dr. Rivera lean over and give her a kiss on the head... seeing that simple act of compassion and kindess to the beautiful soul that was Flirt meant the world to me. Once again we have lost a beautiful soul from our lives far too early. I am going to miss you dearly Flirty-Girty... thank you so much for all the joy and all the love you have showered us with over the past 9 years, you meant more to us that you could ever have known... For those of you with pets, give them some extra attention today... and extra treat, a pat on the head, a longer walk... It is far too easy to take their presence in our lives for granted... You never know when they may suddenly be gone.
