I could not have said this better so I have stolen it. Thank you Scott. Status Update By Scott Daniel Demirjian Oh hi. I need to tell you a story. A couple years ago, my girlfriend embarked on this wild adventure called college and it’s had peaks and valleys so enormous the Grand Canyon gets jealous. See, she signed this piece of paper and agreed to become a student-athlete, which has been the source of endless wonderful memories for her. So while she pieces together the puzzle of nursing school, cramming her brain with pages upon pages of scholarly text and names of weird body parts, she can occasionally have tons of fun with her teammates at bowling tournaments and forget about the mounting pressures of school and motherhood and job changes at work and maybe even having to put up with my nonsense every so often. It’s just remarkable how her team, whom she’d affectionately refer to as her friends, never fails to flood her heart with joy. Ever. You can imagine how tough it must be for her to juggle all those responsibilities, and probably how relieving it is to have the fortune of escaping from it a few days each weekend during her tournaments with her pals. However, life is a book with too many chapters to stay immersed in only one for too long, and the pages flip with each breeze. For Lauren, the pages are turning as I sit here typing this, and you sit here reading it. She’s probably rolling a strike right this very moment and her eight-month-old son, sitting atop his Grumpaw’s shoulders, claps his little hands in complete admiration for his mom. And who wouldn’t? She’s super good, and totally amazing for being so successful with not only the sport she plays, but her grades, and raising the most remarkably sweet and smart little kiddo I’ve ever met. Being a scholar-baller is a lot of work, but I’m sure she’d much rather face that challenge than the reality that this is her last tournament, despite having so much college left. Perhaps there’s a blessing in disguise waiting to be unveiled in her premature removal from the school she loves, due largely in part to her love for her son, and understanding there’d be no way to fully care for him by herself. Quite a selfless act, putting her son before her own future and friends and, really, her life goals. Some day I hope her kiddo will understand the vast array of selfless sacrifices she made to ensure he is always safe and loved and provided for. As he grows up, he’ll probably hear little bits and pieces of this chapter of their lives and thinking nothing of it. He’ll think that all single moms would’ve done the same thing, given her situation. However, he’ll reach an age where he is smart enough to finally put the picture in the right light and decode the past, and he’ll realize just what sort of completely irreplaceable love he has from his completely irreplaceable mom. And he’ll probably give her the biggest, most genuine hug she’s ever felt. And he’ll tell her that he loves her, and thank her for always being there to cut a path for him in the thicket. And all these sacrifices will have been so well worth the prize. could not have said this better so I have stolen it. Thank you Scott.
