I couldnt be more upset at the moment. I just had both my credit score and my ability to graduate from Berkeley threatened first thing in the morning. Over a $20 book I rented from the bookstore and forgot to return. When I tried to return it shortly after it was due they told me it was too late, that I bought it and now owed $60. I was expecting a call from the collection company to pay it, which never came, so it slipped into the back of my mind. Now the amount is apparently $200, and the first person to leave me a number to call back at decided that threatening and lecturing was the way to treat me. I admit fault in forgetting about my already forgotten about book, however Im a busy student and an honest person who would have paid the money if I was given the chance. I cant help but feel really wronged by this system, but was forced to pay the money. The bookstore took back my student loan money (set aside for groceries) at 10 times what the book (which has never been opened and is on my shelf) was worth after my offering to return it. Ill never use Cal Bookstore again. Period.
