I couldnt sleep again tonight so I decided to read some old sermons delivered by Smith Wigglesworth. He was an amazing man of faith born in 1859 and died in 1947, he grew up in the Wesleyan Methodist church and both he and his wife early on were part of the Salvation Army over in England, but after a time left to preach the Gospel without the constraints they felt they were under with them. He had a strong gift for praying for the sick.....laying on of hands and anointing with oil, and seeing people healed from disease. At any rate I love to read his sermons because they inspire faith, they are full of testimonies of Gods power, and just simple down home faith. Nothing fancy, no whipping up false excitement, just sharing the Word of God. Every time I read one of them I am so blessed, this one had a story of a missionary who had taken a bad fever in the field over in Africa, they had given him up for dead, when all of the sudden he simply raised up completely healed. A few months later when he was back in England touring and preaching this missionary, Willie Burton, was approached by a little old lady who asked to speak with him privately. Come to find out that at the exact time this man of God was healed the Lord had impressed on her to pray for him, she prayed in earnest, in tongues, for hours and then the burden was lifted. I love stories like that, it encourages me for the times I have felt led to pray likewise for someone in the middle of the night. Almost always I find out later there was some emergency or issue going on with them. God isnt constrained by time or space. If you ever get a chance you should read some of the sermons, they are on line, or buy a book about him. I knew a preacher who used to know him fairly well, Lester Sumrall, he taught classes at one of the Bible Colleges I took classes at. I even had the opportunity to go with him on a short mission trip once. He told some great stories about brother Wigglesworth, amazing stories. If you want to build your faith read up on him or read one of his sermons I guarantee it will do the trick, which is actually kind of funny because he himself never wrote a book or even allowed anything but the Bible in his home according to Brother Sumrall. Well, I am going to try and get some shut eye again, night all!
