I decided to tell Ed Flints story of how he went from defending child molesters to defending the education rights of children in Utah to lawmakers in Wisconsin. Ed Flint, and his wife came to my daughters fancy high school graduation party this past summer. They also brought their brilliant 18 year old son with high functioning Aspergers Disorder. For the last two years of this kids public school education, he got completely screwed and victimized by a one sized fits all education system in Utah. The implantation of Common Core his Senior Year was, however, the straw that broke the camels back. He just left school. I told the kid good for you. The Flint Family probably had the most fun at the party that night. The kid? I would not worry about him. His brain is wired to think outside the box. In a world where that skill is highly rewarded. This kid, who is probably smarter than 95% of you reading this post, had no chance whatsoever surviving this public school environment. Because his brian is wired so uniquely, subjecting him to 8 hours a day of conformity and teaching to a test...well... it really was emotionally harmful. So when Dad found out his kid was harmed, and that nobody told him about it until it was too late, well...he too got pissed off. 26 years of trial experience mixed with this anger, produced a advocate that Districts really dont want to face. He kicked the crap out of a large public school districts high priced, outside legal council.....in his first case representing one of our clinics clients. A kids education demise was averted, and your tax dollars paid his legal fees. Wanna change the education system in the state of Utah? Especially for gifted, autistic, learning disabled, ADHD and minority students? Make Ed Flint rich. So while I go tell the Wisconsin lawmakers about this lawyer and his son, some of you out there probably need to contact him. Dont wait for someone else to tell you. Parents are, and must always be, the resident expert of their own children.
