I did not watch the last few State of the Union speeches by President Bush because of the following. I was sick and tired of seeing the phony laughs, smiles and handshakes as the president walked into the room. I was sick and tired of hearing the hypocritical ten minutes worth of applause when President Bush arrived at the podium. I was sick of the empty words and insincere promises put forth just for the purpose of getting more misguided applause. I was never impressed to hear a president recite a speech that other nameless people co-wrote for him instead of hearing his own impassioned unscripted words that truly come from the heart. I will not be watching Obamas State of the Union speech for the same reasons and then some. The hypocrisy and bad political theater that will be taking place this evening are way too much for me to bare while so many people are dying and suffering. Our borders remain open while our president will no doubt boast about his achievements instead of admitting some of his failures. He will be talking at us instead of to us and I find that insensitivity insulting. Mr. President put the notes away and turn the TelePrompTer off and just talk to us. Is that too much to ask? After a good nights sleep I will listen to some short highlights of his speech in the morning. Of one thing I am certain. His speech will have done nothing to make things better than they are now. State of the Union speeches are mostly just for show, pomp and circumstance. America, its people and our allies need to see action! No more words!
