SHARE IT.. abrazos..marta ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dr. Joan Clos Date: 2013/8/13 Subject: Guidelines for the Preparation of National Reports for the Habitat III conference In December 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to hold a Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in 2016, i.e. twenty years after Habitat II. The General Assembly decided that the purpose of the conference is “… to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable urban development, assessing accomplishments to date, addressing poverty and identifying and addressing new and emerging challenges…” through a New Urban Agenda. It also decided that the focus of the conference would be the theme of “Sustainable urban development: the future of urbanization”, though the Conference would not be limited to this. In March 2013, the Governing Council of UN-Habitat invited Member States to prepare Habitat III national reports before September 2014. It also requested the Secretary-General of Habitat III to suggest guidelines and a format for the preparation of those Habitat III national reports. In response to this, UN-Habitat has provided draft guidelines and format (unhabitat.us7.list-manage/track/click?u=3e7c3b56b71e078990a6bf630&id=2cbc8b9e46&e=57502790ae), and would like to invite Member States and all Habitat Agenda partners to provide comments and inputs to these draft guidelines.
