I didn’t want to have to do this but feel I’ve no other - TopicsExpress

I didn’t want to have to do this but feel I’ve no other options left. About a year ago I had an idea for a new label which I was really excited about. I wanted a couple of remixers for the project. Parris MItchell of Dance Mania fame was one that I thought would be a good match. I got in touch with him and asked him if he was up for getting involved. He was very friendly and enthusiastic, which was great. So, in good faith I paid him upfront for the remix. In my excitement and misplaced trust I didn’t draw up a contract. This was almost 10 months ago and since then I have received no remix or my money back. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not exactly a ruthless business man. I gave him plenty of opportunities and space to do the remix, but it never happened. For the last 3 months I’ve been asking him for my money back. He has said he was going to pay me back numerous times but the money has not materialised and now he just ignores my emails. At one point I tried to put this behind me thinking karma could deal with the situation but times are tough here for me and my family and I just can’t write off such an amount of money. I understand that we’ve all got stuff going on behind the scenes and there could be very good reasons for him not doing the remix or paying me back, but, it’s been a long time and I’ve received no remix, no money back and no explanation. I’m writing this post to remind/warn people to at least use a contract with people you don’t know. If this type of situation ever arises you will have some kind of control over it. Lesson learned. This whole thing has been very stressful for me and I’m deeply saddened that it’s turned out this way. Misplaced trust can be expensive in this business......
