I discovered the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development recently. Perfect timing because Im interested in measuring the quality of life in my city. They created the Better Life Index or BLI to come up with indicators for quality of living, which is in its third year. Its cutting edge. I found out yesterday that our Bureau of Planning and Sustainability would like to have these social metrics available in their information systems, but they have no one to work on them. I want to do this! Ive got a meeting on Wednesday with the Office of Neighborhood Involvement to see how to navigate a project like this. Their highest priority is to empower civic engagement, for citizens to be involved with their government. Its their job to help people like me. The goal of getting this information is to discover an abundance of opportunity economically and socially. If we find out what were missing, we can direct efforts to fill those gaps. It could be a restaurant, farmers market, community center, or public art installations. In order to get paid for something like this, I have to partner with someone inside one of the agencies to be the face of the project. Someone who isnt young and a college dropout. I can do all the work, I just need some shnazzy looking credentials. ... I needed to get this off my chest. Its a bit complicated, but its there and Im going for it.
