I do enjoy putting pen to paper and know it is far from worthy but here is a light-hearted look back at our summer. :-). Seasons of the year August is almost over and summer is ending, I know this is true. And it leaves me reminiscing of all the amazing things we were able to do. We decided this year slowing down and a stay cation was a must. Fun could still be had, in this we would simply trust. A summer bucket list was made by each at the end of May. One, a trip to get Ben and Jerrys ice cream at midnight, not during the day. There were lazy days at the house with not much to do. There were busy days of running to not one thing but two. I had fun taking classes learning to decorate cakes, Joe and Chayton really enjoyed playing each other in World of Tanks We spent time in our kayaks on the lake and exploring the New We were in awe of things around us as appreciation for nature grew. We all spent time at a very wet and soggy Newport Fair, We were thrilled when Carolyns quilt won Best of Show there. We did some hiking at Glen Alton and on top of Mountain lake, We celebrated Joes 46th birthday with pie, not cake! We rejoiced as a new member was added to our family tree. Reminding us that the miracle of life should not be taken lightly. It was wonderful watching mom and dad share 50 great years. Family and friends were there, along with many happy tears. Chaytons 14th birthday was celebrated with friends in the pool. Then we blew up a watermelon, and well, that was just cool. Carolyn got her ears pierced for a second time, And for this, I simply can not find a rhyme. We watched as a dear friend and her fiancé said, I do. Through it all, our appreciation for love just grew and grew. A trip with great friends to Dismal Falls and Big Stoney Creek. Something we wish we could have done each and every week. A week at Palisades restaurant was Carolyns cooking camp. Then they prepared a buffet for their families just like a champ. Many of our childrens friends came thru the front door for a stay, I love being Momma Ogle and wouldnt have it any other way. Lazy afternoons riding around Clover Hollow looking for deer, Trying to get time to slow down, for this I would gladly cheer. Nights by the fire pit, sharing stories that usually were quite funny. While knocking an item off the summer bucket list, playing Chubby Bunny! The Fourth of July parade is wonderful in our little town, Seeing a serviceman and his daughter, who both deserve a crown. Family time on the couch watching shows and movies too. Yes, another moment where appreciating each other grew and grew. So as the summer of 2014 quickly becomes a thing of the past, I knew in my heart, like many other things, forever it would not last. The summer bucket list was completed, a little each day. Precious time spent with each other along the way. The best part of all was sharing it with people I love, Because it is not where, but who, thats the true blessing from above. Now as our son goes to high school and our daughter to seventh grade, I need to remind myself there is no reason to worry or be afraid. With all the wonderful times we shared this summer, there should truly be no fear. Love and laughter will not leave simply because of changing of seasons of the year. - Melinda Ogle
