He’s held both federal and municipal level positions and has served as a patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, detective lieutenant, and currently serves as a patrol lieutenant for a medium sized city in the Portland Metropolitan area of Oregon. Lt. Goerling also holds an adjunct faculty position at Portland Community College teaching in the Criminal Justice program. He teaches courses in homeland security, introductory policing, and tactical communications. Lt. Goerling recently developed an innovative course that explores police officer resilience and its relationship to police-community relations. Recently, Lt.
