I do have some non-animal welfare friends, family, and acquaintances who are probably seeing post after post today and thinking, enough already, big deal about the shelters...but, you dont know. You dont know what its like to walk through a shelter knowing you can take two, when there are 50 eager faces trying to get your attention. You dont know what its like to force yourself not to pet each one because you might spread disease, and to wish you could explain to them that its not that you dont WANT to pet them, or take them with you, but you just cant. You dont know what its like to lie awake at night wondering where you could squeeze just one more, and to have to say no to those faces because you dont have enough foster homes. Today was a HUGE day for people who know. I really hope that just one of these photos or stories touches you a little, just enough so that the next time you think of looking for a dog or cat, you check out your local shelter or rescue groups FIRST and skip Petland and the classifieds.
