I do not support the petition and feel that the sentence handed out in this case is adequate. The fact that a weapon was used to cause serious injury to the victim should not be overlooked. For too long cases of this nature have resulted in defendants receiving sentences that can be considered a slap on the wrist. There was a case recently where a young lady also received facial injuries requiring surgery and an accumulation of bills. The subject eventually pleaded guilty and was given only 3 years probation and 300 hours of community service. Hopefully going forward cases similar in nature focus on the injuries and emotional distress caused to the VICTIM and hand out sentences equal to the pain and suffering caused. Hopefully harsher penalties will act as a deterrent.
