I do not understand why the West seems surprised with Turkeys present stance... when since the foundation of the state in 1923, Turkey has been doing nothing else but violating the rights of its citizens and neighbours... Over and above the systematic extermination, violence, genocides and holocausts, generation after generation of Armenians, Greeks, Roma, Syriacs, Jews – those that remained alive – have been misplaced from their homes, sentenced to lack of access to political participation, illiteracy and denial of their right to freedom of expression, with no recourse to justice to say the least... I really do not understand why the West is surprised... When during World War I and World War II, Turkey was either fighting against the Free World or has been an ally of the Axis powers… When in 1974 Turkey invades Cyprus and illegally occupies 36% of the island… When in 2003 Turkey forbids the U.S. Armys Third Infantry Division to enter Iraq overland during the Iraqi war… When Turkey becomes the only ally and lifeline to an internationally sanctioned Iran by making its banks available… When it illegally and systematically violates the airspace and territorial waters of most of its neighbours…
