I do not usually post about political things or things of this nature but I feel the need. and I will probably get a lot of shit and grief for this, but here is my say. I truly believe our kids need a longer school year. AND more time for our teachers to be able to teach our kids. No Im not talking about 12 hr days or anything, but think about the shit the government is forcing these teachers to be REQUIRED to teach, now look at the LIMITED amount of time they have to teach it ALL. Not all kids learn at the same rate/pace... A longer school day will allow more time to learn subjects that some may have a harder time grabbing the concept. Allowing more time to complete things and lessening the amount of HOMEWORK they come home with EVERYDAY.. I am also for a longer school yr. And I have seen 1st hand the benefits that have come from this. For this I truly believe in a yr round school, where the KIDS and TEACHERS work/go to school for 9 weeks, then have 3 weeks off, 9 weeks on 3 weeks off. this goes all yr long and it set up so that the kids and teachers have ALL the major holidays off, CHRISTMAS, EASTER, JULY 4th.. The kids are allowed more time to learn and gives more flexibility to the teachers. The teachers and kids do not have to spend the 1st 3 months of the next school yr reviewing everything the kids learned the previous semester to get the ready t take these ridiculous state tests. they can focus on new skills. Yes I know how much grief I am going to get from EVERYONE, cause most people hate change. But how many of us want a great education for our kids, and want them to STIVE and go far. Think about the fact that some changes need to be made to allow things to be GREAT. Yes there are ups and downs to EVERYTHING. But This is one where I will take the downs along with the ups for what time it takes to make it run and ALLOW MY child the ability to learn and earn a great education from the amazing teachers he has..
