I do not want to scare anyone but I just feel that you all should know that the State of Vermont it preparing for another MAJOR flooding event. Please read the message below from Brian Searles, Secretary of Transportation: Hope all is well on this wet afternoon. I wanted to let you know that VTrans is busy dealing with a number of storm-related issues from the last few days, mainly in the northwestern part of the state. However, I wanted to point out that we are of the belief that the 24-48 hrs. beginning late on Thursday will likely involve very heavy rain in several parts of the state. Let me quote from the latest NWS statement: “The overall weather pattern looks very conducive to flooding across Vermont and Northern New York. The potential is there for a MAJOR flood event……. A cold front moves toward the region late Thursday with an area of low pressure. This system deepens (develops) and pretty much stagnates across the Northeast through the weekend.” I wanted you to know that VTrans Exec Staff is meeting in preparation for the possibility that this will require a significant response. Operations is preparing the Districts for possible deployment outside their normal boundaries and you all should work with your Division Directors in advance of the possible need for staffing up if an emergency situation arises that must be dealt with outside the normal organizational structure. With a little luck, none of this will be applicable. However, we will be ready if the worst case develops. Thanks, in advance, for your help.
