I dont buy the whole youre just getting old...thats why you dont feel a lot of the music now.... thing... Lemme break it down... The generation before us for the majority (outside of Muhammad Ali, The Last Poets, and Gil-Scott Heron) didnt understand what rapping over music was. No matter if they could understand Rakims eloquent lyrics on paper (I read my mom the verse to Eric B. and Rakims Paid In Full a few years back and she TOTALLY got it). However, the delivery of it was foreign to her, since she came from a generation of mostly singing.... So....I challenged my students to read lyrics from then, until now, the most played radio songs....and it all garnered the same response.... Woooooooooooooow......... See...its not that we are too old...we UNDERSTAND rap lyrics because we are the first Rap generation....if we can compute Nass or Big Bois 15 words in a sentence....we FOR DAMNED SURE can compute your average rappers song now with 3 words in a sentence...the WHOLE song.... We just listen and say...Oh....I heard EXACTLY what he/she said....they just aint saying NOTHING...... ...and YES...there ARE lyricists in this generation.....but they are like that ONE type of food you want from the grocery store...you gotta go to 50 stores before you find it because everybody dont carry it... Maybe we are like Neo in the Matrix....when these new songs play, they are like bullets we can just pick out of the air...because the lyrics are cooooming sooooo slooooooooooow... I refuse to fall for the youre just old.......nah....yall just dumb......
